From Gourmet, 1975
As promised yesterday, here's another recipe from Gourmet's inaugural piece on the food processor in 1975. This one looks like quite a project. I wonder if it's worth it?
And for your further delectation, here are a couple of ads for artisanal food products from an earlier era. These are from the September 1951 issue. Eight lobsters plus a peck of steamers for $14.95!
Butter beans were on the table once a week in my house when I was a kid in the 70's. Yum. I never see them anymore.
My Cuisinart DL-8 Plus is from 1984 and it's still going strong. I prefer the old models with the lever pulse/on switches as opposed to the newer push-button models. I have attachments they no longer make, like the 1mm slicing blade and a whisking unit that has two beaters that revolve around the interior of the bowl for beating egg whites and whipped cream. I've replaced my S blade numerous times, as well as all the plastic parts, but that motor will never give out. It's a keeper for life.

In 1975, my then husband, bought me a Cuisinart food processor. It was the best gift he ever gave me and one of my favorite gifts of my entire life. I had a Christmas cocktail party for his office... and with a 18 month old by my side, prepared all the food. Including a Victorian ginger bread house that had blue mint candy melted in all the windows that looked like glass ( it was on the cover of a cooking magazine at the time...)and oysters rockefeller for 50 people. Observing me hand chopping all that spinach is what inspired the purchase. I was 24 then. I'm 60 now and I just replaced that food processor 4 years ago. It was such a great party, with one regret. My son, who was very verbal, very early on, walked up to anyone who was approaching the dessert table with the gingerbread house and said, "Don't touch the house, just don't touch the house"... in about 5 different tonal variations. Oh.. what was I thinking?
